The lovely waterfront town of Solomons, Maryland is the setting for our Plein Air Street Faire! If you’ve never experienced an event of this kind, consider visiting the picturesque Solomons community for a weekend of art and entertainment. It pulls together three events: Solomons-Paint the Town, the Taste of Solomons, and a brand new street fair!

Plein air painting is painting that takes place outdoors, but what makes Solomons-Paint the Town truly exciting is that the event is a competition for the participating artists. From Thursday, May 12 – Saturday, May 14, 2011, visitors will find more than 30 professional plein air artists painting scenes in and around the Solomons-Dowell community.  From beautiful scenes of the harbor to the flora and fauna of the island, the Faire will highlight the extraordinary talent and beauty of this engaging outdoor art form. 

On Saturday, May 14, 2011, visitors to the Solomons Plein Air Street Faire will also enjoy a fun and colorful street fair, as well as the Taste of Solomons, a one-day food festival showcasing the many wonderful places to eat in this lovely waterfront community.  Stroll the Solomons boardwalk to take in the sights and sounds of the street faire, then purchase your tickets to enjoy a smorgasbord of extraordinary food and drink.  All activities at the Faire are appropriate for all ages. 

On Sunday, May 15, all the plein air works created by this talented group of artists will go on sale at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center - with proceeds to benefit the Solomons July 4^th Fireworks Fund.  The Exhibition & Sale will remain up May 15-29. 

Solomons-Paint the Town will give plein air artists the opportunity to enjoy their art form and share their creativity with the public. To the viewer, this art form can be very exciting because it invites you into the creative process, the sight, sound, and even smell of the artist’s world.

Visitors of all ages are invited to observe the entire process, from the first brush stroke to the final flourish. And Solomons-Paint the Town is a competition because every work of art is created during the first three days of the festival with artists competing for prizes. This exciting artistic spectacle is coupled with a wide array of programs and activities offered at various locations throughout the Solomons community. The Quick Draw and the Artsy Activities at Annmarie Garden are just a few examples. And of course, the many shops, restaurants, and galleries of Solomons, will be open!

The highlight of Solomons-Paint the Town will be the Awards Ceremony and Art Sale on Sunday, May 15 from 1-3 pm in the lovely Arts Building at Annmarie Garden, followed by the Juror’s talk at 3 pm by Judge Steven Cushner. The Exhibition & Sale of the artwork will begin on Sunday, May 15 and continue through Sunday, May 29. All the plein air works that were created during the prior three days of the festival will be on exhibit and available for purchase through May 29. It is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a work of art that you watched being created. This creative and festive event, all hosted within the lovely waterfront community of Solomons, Maryland, will delight visitors of all ages.
