10th Annual Taste of Solomons

The 10th annual Taste of Solomons on Saturday, March 27 is where you can
sample what this vibrant little island has to offer. This year along with
the culinary delights of the island, we will be offering cocktails,
mocktails, art, artisans, vendors and services - a real taste of Solomons'
lifestyle. Visit participating local restaurants to try samples of their
finest fare accompanied by wine, beer, specialty drinks, and non-alcoholic
beverages. Ticket are $4 per tasting and will be available at each
participating restaurant and at the Visitor Center directly across from

A Taste of Tremler” show at Carmen’s Gallery
Carmen’s Gallery has planned a gallery show to coincide with Solomons’
popular “Taste of Solomons”. The exhibition will feature new original
paintings by Russian artist Yuri Tremler. Tremler’s oil paintings feature
restaurant and bar scenes as well as some street scapes. The show will
open Saturday at 11 am for the event and continue through the weekend. For

Maertens is hosting a Charity Auction
to benefit the Arc of Southern Maryland. April 29 through May 1st,
Maertens will be showcasing over 100 pieces of jewelry in a silent auction
with bids starting at up to 50% off retail. 10% of all the sales will be
donated to the Arc of Southern Maryland. The event will take place at

5th Annual Solomons Maritime Festival
Calvert Marine Museum
Taking place annually in early May, the Calvert Marine
Museum celebrates Southern Maryland traditions with the
Solomons Maritime Festival. Building on the successful
Chesapeake Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show, the festival
will takes place on the museum’s scenic waterfront campus.
The Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show features exhibits
from over 60 collectors of antique and classic boats, and
vintage marine outboard and inboard engines.

The Calvert County Farmers Market in
Solomons
Officially starts on Thursday, May 6th, 4p.m. to 8 p.m. in
the Riverwalk Parking Lot, north of the pavilion. The
farmers market will operate every Thursday evening through
November 18th. This year, we will have at least eight farm
vendors and one seafood vendor at this market

Gallery Show
Carmen’s Gallery will be featuring the work of this year’s Plein Air
judge Carolyn Egeli in a gallery show Saturday, May 15, 7 – 9 p.m.
Egeli, a life long resident of Valley Lee, grew up in a family of
artists. She studied at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and is
a renowned portrait and landscape artist. Her children and siblings
all have careers in the arts as did her parents. |

The
annual Solomons fireworks display will be held on Sunday, July 4th.
Fireworks will be shot from a barge in the Patuxent River and can be
viewed from the Riverwalk. In the event of rain on July 4th, the
display will take place on Monday, July 5th.

Sharkfest
Calvert Marine Museum
Taking place in early July, the Calvert Marine Museum focuses on
Sharks - both living and fossilized, during its annual Sharkfest!
Touch the rough hide of a shark in the shark touch tank. Have your
picture taken in the jaws of a Giant Megalodon shark skeleton. Learn
the amazing facts about shark habits and habitats. Find a
20-million-year-old shark’s tooth in the Discovery Room. The day
will include fish face painting, marine games, shark crafts,
displays by the Fossil Club, and shark mural painting. All
activities free with museum admission.

Solomons Offshore Grand Prix presented by Bayside Toyota/Chevrolet
It's official, the Jersey
Boyz are back, but this time the OPA National Championship Race will
be determined in the waters off Solomons Island. GEICO has teamed
with Bayside Toyota/Chevrolet, the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat
Association and our sponsors to secure a knock-down, drag-out race
course in front of the main sea wall on Solomons Island. Spectators
and fans will find plenty of parking and up-close viewing of some of
the worlds fastest boats on the water today, racing for the
Championship, including the World Famous Miss GEICO. Presented by
Bayside Toyota/Chevrolet, Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association, OPA,
GEICO, Miss Geico Racing.

Patuxent River Appreciation Days

Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD) is an annual festival, which
creates awareness, recognition, and promotion of the economic,
social, recreational, cultural and historical impact of the
tributaries and environs of the Patuxent River and the basin through
which it flows. The festival is held annually on Columbus Day
Weekend. The festival brings together, and reflects the continuing
commitment of, the community, county and state government agencies,
the Calvert Marine Museum, the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, and
other historical and environmental groups, which share a desire to
preserve the Patuxent River and to celebrate its positive influence
on the area’s quality of life, in the past, present, and future.

Halloween in the Garden
Annmarie Garden, Solomons
Looking for something SPOOKtacular to do for Halloween? Try bringing
the family to the Garden for a safe and spook-free daytime
trick-or-treating event. Non-profit organizations, outreach
programs, local businesses and entrepreneurs participate by
decorating their space in a haunted theme, dressing in holiday
costumes, and handing out goodies. Children are able to meander
through the woods along the paved pathway, free of vehicles, and
receive candy from reputable organizations and businesses within
their own community. Free ooky, spooky art activities are always
provided. Free parking is located adjacent to the Garden. Dress the
whole family and enjoy a day of trick-or-treating in the garden and
unique photo opportunities with the boo-tiful decorations!

one-of-a-kind creations as you walk the 1/4 mile loop. Mythical
creatures, spectacular wild animals, illuminated works of art,
hidden beasts, and more will delight all ages. As always, the
Holiday I Spy game will challenge guests to find the hidden
features. After your walk, enjoy a hot drink, entertainment, the
Ornament Show, the Celebrations Glass Exhibit, and more in the Arts
